| BEFORE |
We've lived in our home for ten years. When we built it, it was decorated in a very traditional, very formal, style. As my style has evolved and I've expanded my various collections, I decided that I wanted a more casual, more "farm girl french", style. I wasn't sure how I was going to accomplish this with just paint and a few accessories, but this is where I ended up. They say that "a picture is worth a thousand words." With that said, I'll let the photos do the "talking".

ReplyDeleteWow--that is so beautiful now--love your style and taste in your new room decor--looks more Frenchy. Gorgeous new paint color too!
ReplyDeletehmmm, goes from formal and staunch,,,boring,,,to very warm, cozy and inviting space, good job! love it.
ReplyDeleteI am here via Jennifer's facebook note. This is an amazing transformation. It is definitely encouraging me to paint our dining room.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous room!
I highly recommend paint! Had I done nothing else, the color change alone made a huge impact! Good luck with your project!
DeleteI love the grey and black. So much better. It is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHoly Smokes! I love it! And the chandelier is unbelievable!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sherry...it's not everyone's taste but it solved the "big brass chandelier" problem without paint!
DeleteI think you captured perfectly the french farm girl look you were going for. I've got to say I love it all, especially the hutch top on your buffet and I love how you've styled the ladder. It's wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
GASPS! LOVE IT!

ReplyDeleteLOVE this room - it is so beautiful! I really like the way you did it without having to get all new furniture. Our dining room is a very formal room with rust/red colored walls(almost exactly like what yours were) and traditional furniture. I want to change the whole room but I have been dragging my feet because of the furniture issue. Now I see that I can probably do it with what I've got in there already. You've inspired me! I love the way yours turned out. It's perfect!
ReplyDeleteI especially love what you did with the chandelier - it's amazing!! Did you make the wire cages around each light, or were you able to buy them somewhere?
Thanks for sharing!
Kathleen
Hi Kathleen! Thank-you for your kind comments! My walls were Benjamin Moore Georgian Brick and I was a nervous wreck! I knew that I couldn't change the furniture or the chandelier, I had a limited budget and I wouldn't take on any project where I couldn't do 99% of it by myself.
DeleteThe cages around the lights are made from some wire and vine stuff that I found at Michaels in the area where they keep the moss. It comes wound up in a spool like ribbon, it's about 6 inches tall. I cut it into 10 inch (give or take) long sections, wound it around sticks that I found in the yard and slid it over the candle where it rests on a small grapevine wreath (49 cents at Michaels) that was laid on top of just a little bit of moss. The rest of the chandelier is wrapped with burlap ribbon ($4.99 a roll at Michaels) and held in place at the ceiling by pins. None of it is permanent (because I like to change things up from time to time) and there's no damage to the chandelier! Let me know if you want photos of any of this stuff. I'm happy to send them along! xo, Kimberly
Perfection - love the ironstone and the way it's displayed, the baskets, hydrangeas, bottles, that ladder ... everything!
ReplyDeleteKelly

ReplyDeleteVanessa
Thanks, Vanessa. It's still a little bit of a shocker for me after having it brick red for such a long time but I will happily admit that I LOVE it and that it fits in much better with the rest of my home and my style. I'll ABSOLUTELY stop by on Friday and THANK-YOU!!!! xo, Kimberly
DeleteSo beautiful! I love they grey color and how the ironstone works perfectly in your hutch. Thanks so much for linking up, it was a joy to see!
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous room! What a difference the paint colour made, but every detail is spectacular! Nice job!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!!!!!! This is absolutely gorgeous and cozy all in one! I love the dresser makeover, the ladder in the corner, and what a great idea for the chandelier. You definitely achieved your goal. I am sure you are enjoying it daily! Thanks for sharing. I am your newest follower. Hope you can visit me sometime too :)
ReplyDeleteHi Tammy! Welcome! I'll stop by!
DeleteWow... this is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYour room is one of my all time favorites in all of blogland!! This is exactly the look I am striving for in my own home. To me, it says welcome- this is a comfortable, inviting place to be. Congrats on a job well done!!
ReplyDeleteThank-you for your kind words. It's an ongoing process for me. I'm currently working on my "office" and my living room. Stay tuned!
DeleteStunning! Following you on google and facebook, right now!
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm just blown away!!! You and I have the same scenario in dining rooms. I've lived in my house 10 years too and last year I rebelled and wanted to go more "vintage" and French, less traditional. The paint you've used is just a fabulous color. LOVE all your touches, you've done a spectacular job in creating a whole new vibe!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra. I LOVE your blog!!!! I've been looking around for days! xo
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I love every single detail.
ReplyDeletexo, Sherry
Beyond amazing transformation! It is simply gorgeous! I would love to see the steps involved in doing your chandy! I am your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela, Welcome..and thanks! I took just a couple of photos while I was putting it together. I'll try to put together a 'mini-tutorial'. Watch for it sometime next week! xo

ReplyDeleteYou are being featured at tonights Link and Greet Party @CountryMommaCooks.....stop by and grab a featured button, check it out on Facebook, G+ and Pinterest:) Look forward to seeing what you've been up to this week.
ReplyDeleteThank-you Deana!!!!! I'll do it tonight. PLEASE stop by the blog. I've had a new post nearly every day this week. Painting a few things and getting ready to do a "garden overhaul" on one of my flower beds. I've been surfing your site and I've got a couple of your recipes book marked for Sunday baking! xo, Kimberly
DeleteOMGoodness...what a fabulous makeover! A true Cinderella moment for that room!
ReplyDeleteI love every detail, especially the chandelier!
So happy I stopped in from VIF!!
Thank-you! I've had several people mention the chandelier and I'm going to see if I can put together a mini-tutorial about how I did it for next week some time so please stop by again! xo, Kimberly
DeleteYour projects are wonderful!!!Carolina
ReplyDeleteAmazing transformation...love the before as well as the after. It looks like you brought in new everything but when you break it down the re-engineering of what you already had is fab. The best ideas are born out of limited resources, don't ya' think? My first visit to your blog but I'll be back. How do feel about my pinning the Chandey & the lavender basket w/doily? I respect your ideas and creativity. Suzi pblapere@att.net
ReplyDeleteHi Suzi, You are ABSOLUTELY welcome to pin my stuff so long as you say where you got it from. I don't watermark all of my images since I'm new to all of this. I'll add it to the disclaimer. I just put it on there because I've seen other bloggers who steal images from people's Etsy and blog pages and represent them as their own. xo, Kimberly
DeleteI just saw your statement about the images being used by only blogs. I respect that so please disregard my request to pin the chandelier and lavender basket. BTW I think the contrast with the shiny brass and rustic wire& burlap on the chandy is a huge plus. Suzi pblapere@att.net
ReplyDeleteI love, love how it all turned out, Kim! The shelves, the chandelier... the whole room is really transformed!! LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings... Polly
Gorgeous! Love all of your personal creative touches!! Had to pin and will follow you!! Found you today at Common Ground!

A stunning transformation! I love your shelves displaying your ironstone collection... gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful, Kimberly! I love that you used what you had to completely change the look ~ wonderful vision!
ReplyDeleteHi, coming over from Better After blog and all I can say is WOW. I'm kinda in the same boat as you were. My dining room is very formal with PA House Cherry furniture and ugly grandma wall paper. There is no way I can justify getting rid of the furniture(it was expensive and I'm afraid I'm stuck with it for life)but I love how you made your furniture fit right in. I love the paint color and will be getting a sample pot if available-can I ask is it more gray or tan? thanks, Lisa
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa! Thank you! I'm right there with you! Table cloths go a long way! The color changes with the light and what you put in the room with it. At night, I feel like it looks more taupe/tan and in the day, it looks more gray. I really love it and find it really calm and quiet. Good luck and let me know if I can answer any questions for you!
ReplyDeleteMay I come have dinner at your place?? Your dining room is goreous! I really love everything about it. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI found you on better after and I am now your newest follower....I'm off to check out the rest of your blog :)
Helen @ pickedandpainted.blogspot.com
LOVE the transformation. I am buying a new house and transitioning to a neutral pallet. This is such and inspiration! I am going to share and link back . Come and visit if you have a minute. We are newish bloggers too and love visitors! Following!
ReplyDelete♥ Liz
I love neutrals and French too so your dining room looks fabulous to me! The bench with the lace on it made me smile especially. I like the chandy but not sure how one would dust that....;-) Still, it's really cool!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the makeover! SO FAB!! Found you from The Old Painted Cottage
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible transformation! I absolutely love everything about it, Kimberly. The ambiance is so much more restful now.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Liz @ The Brambleberry Cottage
Thank you! My favorite comment came from a friend who said that it feels much more like "me". I can't wait to celebrate the holidays in there! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteGorgeous! I absolutely love the wall color and all the details. The hutch is amazing and so inspiring to me as I am updating my dining room now. I found your link on Funky Junk and am now following. I can't wait to explore your blog, more.
ReplyDeleteAngela
Hi Angela, Welcome and thanks! My dad liked it better when it was more formal, everyone else likes it the way that it is now. I hope that you're having a wonderful weekend.
DeleteStunning...love your new look :) Laurel
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurel! Happy Labor Day!
DeleteLove the transition! I have a mirror just like yours, well at least the same shape and it's atop my side board/buffet. But your's puts mine to shame, time to get to work :)
