Steady progress

It was a wonderful weekend. I am making steady progress on the dining room. The Ceiling and walls are painted and I've moved on to a couple of other projects. The pair of arched doors, above, are some that I salvaged out of a house that was being torn down. Literally, I made the man who was running the wrecking ball stop while I salvaged this pair of doors and a beautiful, full length, beveled glass mirror. He was kind. He probably thought that I was nuts, but he helped me unscrew them.

The mirror found a "home" in my new house right away.  I glued it to the wall in my master bathroom using construction adhesive and then framed it to look like a window using trim that was leftover from when we built the house.

The windows, however, have been sitting in the basement for almost 6 years waiting to find a home.  Over the last few months, I've been trying to figure out what to do with them. Yesterday I decided that they would be perfect in the corner of the dining room. I'm not going to do anything too terribly fancy because they are coming with me when I leave this house.  I'm building a basic frame and anchoring it to the wall then using the existing hinges to screw the doors to the frame.  I'll take photos as I go.

I'm also FINALLY painting this chest which I got from Nellie's Barn Sale last fall. I exchanged a hand knit afghan for this beauty!

So, there you have it, what I did this weekend. Of course, I also went to Kane County Flea Market where I found a few goodies including this amazing ladder which is now a part of the new dining room decor. Here's a sneak peek:

If the weather holds and work isn't too busy, I'm hoping to be able to get out to see my friend, Rick. I'm hoping to take some photos of three barns that he's disassembling as well as to pick up a few pieces (he's actually going to let me take them off of the barn!!) for a project that I'm working on.  I"m SOOO excited.

I have six days left to finish this project, decide on a table setting for Easter and do a little gardening. The good news is that end of quarter madness at work is over. The bad news is that I still need to sleep!

Have a great week!
